A Covenant Answer in Blood and Stone

There are places on this earth where heaven leans low — where history, prophecy, and pain press so closely together that you feel them in your bones. Joseph’s Tomb is one of them.

On Wednesday evening, as the sun dipped behind the hills of Samaria, we entered Shechem — known today as Nablus — under heavy IDF escort. Around us stood families who had lost sons and daughters in this war. Some had buried soldiers. Others had lost civilians to terror. They came not only to mourn, but to testify.

We were not tourists. We were covenantal witnesses.

On the bus, Governor Yossi Dagan addressed us — not as a mere public official, but as a man burdened with the responsibility of both legacy and future.

He told us of a woman — pregnant, full of life — gunned down on the road while on her way to the hospital to give birth. Two lives lost. A mother and child murdered. But Dagan didn’t speak vengeance. He spoke legacy.

“It was important for us to respond,” he said. “Not just with military operations. We needed to give a covenantal reply. A spiritual answer. A territorial declaration. And so — on the seventh day, just before sunset — we laid the cornerstone of a new building in Bruchin South, right by the road where she was killed.”

“It had to be before sunset,” he continued. “As a sign to Heaven. As a message to our people. As a reply to our enemies. We are not going anywhere. We build.”

That evening, as we stood inside Joseph’s Tomb, the weight of prophetic memory fell upon us:

“And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, ‘God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.’” — Genesis 50:25

“And Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem…” — Joshua 24:32

This was sacred ground. The site where Abraham built his first altar. The valley where Joshua renewed covenant. The soil where bones and promises have rested for generations. And here, in 2025, in the center of Palestinian-controlled Nablus, surrounded by danger, death, and tension — we stood.

Governor Dagan’s act was not political rhetoric. It was a prophetic sign. Like Abraham, he built without seeing the full inheritance. Like Joseph, he believed in promises beyond his generation.

We stood there with grieving families and armed soldiers. We prayed. We remembered. And we made covenant again.

We came with mourning.
We left with fire.
